Purpose

At Gather & Roam, we believe everyone deserves to feel welcome, safe and respected while enjoying the outdoors.

This Code of Conduct sets out the expectations for all participants attending Gather & Roam activities. By booking onto an event, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct.

Our Values

We encourage everyone to:

  • Be kind and welcoming.

  • Support and encourage others.

  • Respect different backgrounds, experiences and abilities.

  • Enjoy the outdoors responsibly.

  • Help create a positive and inclusive community.

Respect for Others

Participants must:

  • Treat everyone with courtesy and respect.

  • Use inclusive and respectful language.

  • Respect personal space and boundaries.

  • Be patient and supportive of participants with different abilities or confidence levels.

  • Follow reasonable instructions given by the walk leader.

Gather & Roam has a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, harassment, discrimination or abusive behaviour.

Respect for the Outdoors

We ask everyone to:

  • Follow the Countryside Code.

  • Leave places as you found them.

  • Take all litter home.

  • Avoid disturbing wildlife.

  • Keep to designated paths where appropriate.

  • Respect farmers, landowners and other countryside users.

  • Close gates unless instructed otherwise.

Safety

Participants are responsible for:

  • Booking activities suitable for their own fitness and ability.

  • Wearing suitable footwear and clothing.

  • Bringing enough food and water where advised.

  • Informing the walk leader of any relevant medical conditions or injuries before the activity begins.

  • Following safety instructions throughout the event.

Anyone whose behaviour places themselves or others at unnecessary risk may be asked to leave the activity.

Family Events

During family events:

  • Children must remain under the supervision of their parent or guardian at all times.

  • Parents and guardians are responsible for their children's behaviour and safety.

  • Children should remain with the group unless instructed otherwise by their responsible adult.

Gather & Roam does not provide childcare or supervision.

Dogs

Where dogs are permitted:

  • Dogs must remain on a lead unless otherwise advised.

  • Owners are responsible for their dog's behaviour at all times.

  • Owners must clean up after their dog.

  • If a dog's behaviour becomes unsafe or disruptive, the walk leader may ask the owner to leave the activity.

Photography

Please respect the privacy of others when taking photographs.

Do not photograph or film children without the permission of their parent or guardian.

Please follow Gather & Roam's Social Media & Photography Policy.

Behaviour We Will Not Accept

The following behaviour is not acceptable:

  • Bullying, intimidation or harassment.

  • Discrimination of any kind.

  • Aggressive or threatening behaviour.

  • Being under the influence of illegal drugs.

  • Excessive alcohol consumption that affects safety or enjoyment.

  • Wilfully damaging property or the environment.

  • Ignoring safety instructions from the walk leader.

If Problems Arise

Where appropriate, the walk leader will:

  1. Speak to the participant privately.

  2. Explain the concern and seek to resolve it.

  3. Ask the participant to leave the activity if their behaviour continues or presents a safety risk.

  4. Refuse future bookings where necessary.

Gather & Roam reserves the right to remove any participant whose behaviour compromises the safety, wellbeing or enjoyment of others.
